Supplement Troubleshooting

It is difficult to make holes in the punch card.

When humidity is high due to factors such as rainfall, the card can become damp, making it difficult to create holes.

The card does not feed properly.

Check the feed wheel for dirt.

Burring around the holes in the punch card can interfere with the feed process. Ensure that all burring is completely removed.

Feeding of the punch card is also hindered if the gap between the pipes and the table is too narrow. In such a case, remove the mounting strip attached to the cushion sheet.

Depending on factors such as paper type and humidity, paper may not be fed properly. Change the paper type.

The melody does not sound right.

If the pipes are incorrectly tuned, the melody will not be played as intended. In such a case, repeat the tuning process carefully.

The sound of the mechanism is too loud.

The mechanism may sound loud if an insufficient amount of lubricating oil has been applied. Ensure that a sufficient amount of oil is applied to the gears, piston, and other mating sections.

It is difficult for air to escape at sections of the punch card containing no holes, and therefore, the mechanism will normally sound loud at those sections. If this becomes particularly annoying, add grace notes to eliminate silent sections.

The piston does not operate properly.

Inspect the frame for deformation or warping. Place the organ on a flat surface and check whether all four rests are making contact with it. If this is not the case, loosen the four fixing screws and straighten up the frame.

In certain cases, a better contact condition between the piston and the cylinder can be achieved by rotating the piston by 180 degrees.

Similarly, loosening the two screws securing the cam retainer (B) can improve the motion of the cam.

The organ produces no sound.

Check whether either of the pipe clasps has become detached. If either of the clasps detaches easily, attach a thinly-cut section of foam pad to the side of the pipes using double-sided tape before assembling them. This will cause the pipes to be pushed in slightly and will prevent the clasps from detaching.
