The Karakuri Mechanical Doll of the Flourishing Edo Period

The Karakuri Mechanical Doll is a recreation of the mechanical doll depicted in the illustrated "Karakuri Zui" (1796), the sole surviving guide to mechanical devices from the Edo Period. It approaches guests carrying a cup of tea and clears away the empty tea cup. It was one of the early inspirations for robots.
Assembling this kit lets you experience the cleverness and creativity of Edo Period mechanical ingenuity.

Features
  • The internal mechanisms are recreations of those illustrated in the "Karakuri Zui," an illustrated guide from the Edo Period (1603-1867).

  • The adjusting mechanism lets you adjust the distance it walks, the angle it turns, and its speed.

  • The assemply kit takes between an hour and a half and two hours to assemble. It requires no special tools. The kit comes with kimono and a tea cup.

  • An assembled version is available with the body pre-assembled. Simply dress it in the kimono and attach the head. Even people who are not good at assembling kits can enjoy watching this tea-serving doll in action.
