Supplement Troubleshooting

The rotor does not turn.

Check whether you can rotate the rotor gently by hand. If it does not rotate smoothly, examine the assembly condition of components near the shaft.

Check the battery and replace it with a new one if old or worn out. Note that rechargeable NiCd batteries and non-rechargeable Oxyride batteries should not be used.

The LED has positive and negative sides and must be installed correctly. Failure to do so will not only prevent the LED from lighting but will also make it impossible for the rotor to turn.

Check all connections between the coil, cords, and red LED. Securely reattach any loose connections.

If the rubber band attached to the pulley is too tight, it may prevent the rotor from turning. Either remove the rubber band and check rotation of the rotor or extend the rubber band by hand and reposition the pulley. If the kit’s rubber band is found to be too tight, replace it with a household rubber band.

Check whether the polarities of the rotor magnets are correct. If even one of the magnets is assembled incorrectly, the rotor will not turn. It is also crucial that the magnets are pushed back fully into their slots.

The rotation of the rotor is unstable.

Move the reed switch and stop it at a position where the rotor turns in a continuous, stable fashion. It should be noted that the reed switch can have fused in the ON position. This can usually be rectified by pushing the switch gently.

The batteries ran out of power even when the motor has not been operated.

Even if the motor is not operating, current will flow between reed switch and nearby magnets. When not in use, be sure to always remove the batteries.
